Remington I-Light Pro IPL6000USA Review

Remington-I-Light-Community-RatingI bought this machine a long time back now because it was the first home hair removal machine that existed and it was relatively cheap.

Apart from that, I needed to upgrade it eventually as the effectiveness was, let’s just say, not up to par in comparison to the other Remington IPL machines (Pro Plus or Quartz) or any other home laser hair removal machine for that matter.

But for all intensive purposes for those that are still interested, here is my experience using the Remington I-LIght Pro IPL6000USA.

Body hair—they are all over! For someone who prefers a clean slate, hair bumps and black dots are a no-no for me. Hence, the best alternative for shaving and tweezing is a necessity not only for me, but also for most girls (or even guys). That is when I was been introduced to Intense Pulse Light technology that the Remington series offer. Just like the laser technology, IPL uses intense light to emit heat energy that will target the hair follicles under the surface of the skin. Hefty, right?!

WARNING: Do not use this machine on very dark brown or black skin, use this machine. Do you have blonde, red, grey or white hair? You need to use this machine.

These technicalities can bore us out, for all we want is to get rid of these body hair forever! Okay. Scratch that, there WAS really no forever (back when the i-light was released a couple of years back), but a little bit longer than the usual would do. But in case you want something more closer to forever, you might want to check out my subsequent purchases, the Remington iLight PLUS or QUARTZ!

What does Remington iLIGHT Pro promise?

But first things first, what does Remington iLIGHT Pro really do? How does it differ from the other machines coming from the same series? Being the least expensive one, does it really deliver its promises?

These are just some of the questions posed regarding this device. I have also done a great summary that shows you the difference between all 3 Remington IPL machines.

It can be ascertained that unlike the most expensive and latest version, Remington iLIGHT Pro Quartz, this machine is the most basic version in the i-Light series and it does not render long lasting results, you need to upgrade to the other machines if you want permanent hair free results.

The results may only last up to 6 months, wherein subsequent treatments may be necessary. But don’t fret, it has been clinically tested that 50%-70% of body hair is reduced from growing.

Being the cheapest and simplest version in the series, this device definitely does the job (of saving you money that is, no really if you are short on cash and you want to stunt your hair growth this machine is a great option). Although it might take some time, but one will get there (patience is a virtue, right?!). But if you are looking for a more efficient machine that renders longer lasting hair free results, Remington iLight PLUS or QUARTZ did it for me.

Remington iLIGHT Pro Features

FDA Cleared

The Remington I-Light device is certified by the United States Food and Drug Administration as a safe machine to be used by the general public.

Electrically Powered

This device comes with a power cord, and recharging is not necessary. You just need to plug the cord to the outlet, and you are good to go!

Could be used by both men and women

Yes, you read that right! The Remington I-Light could be used by any gender, as long as you have unwanted hair that you want to get rid of. It must be noted that one must be compatible with the device prior to the treatment. A skin tone sensor is included to ensure the compatibility of the user and secure maximum results.

I am fairly tanned, and my hair is black. I think this contributed to the maximum results I got from using this device. Thank you, genes!

The i-LIGHT Pro is intended for permanent reduction in hair. Permanent hair reduction is defined as a long-term stable reduction in the number of hairs re-growing when measured at 6, 9, and 12 months after the completion of a treatment regimen. And it has been proven that with faithful and correct usage of the product, maximum results could be ensured. With my rather skewed favoritism of the Quartz and Pro Plus machines, I remember getting results from this machine after the 6/7th treatment in comparison to after the 3rd treatment with the Quartz.

How often should I treat the area?

Treatments should be done every two weeks for the first three treatments. After the visible hair growth reduction. You may only use it as needed. Being the badass that I am, I treated the area only after a week prior the earlier treatment. I know, I know. Good thing my skin was not burnt at all!

What areas can I treat?

You can treat most parts of your body, but veer away from the eyes and the area around it. This device worked with my upper lip hair, on the third intensity. Although I did use the I-Light on my face,  Remington do not recommend using this machine on the face. If you want a Remington machine which is approve safe to use on face you will need to buy the IPL6000f model or the Tria 4X (the #1 safest machine for the face). With its compact feature, you can treat your bikini area, armpit, legs, tummy, you name it! This contributes to the overall user-friendly feature of this product.

How does the treatment go?

STEP 1: Wash, shave and dry

Just like any other processes to be done on your skin, the area should be clean and shaved. Shaving the hair prior the treatment ensures the maximum results. It helps the light go deeply into the skin and target the hair follicles. REMEMBER, shave as close as possible, for little stubbles that might be left out may sting once zapped with the light. Yes, I did experience that, and trust me, you DO NOT want the same thing to happen to you.

STEP 2: The compatibility test

Upon drying the now clean area, it is now time to check if your skin is compatible to the device. The i-LIGHT Pro works best with medium to light skin, and is less effective on lighter hair colors. Being slightly tanned and having black hair contributed to the maximum results I got from this machine. But be noted that it is less effective on blonde and red hair (if you have blonde, red, white or grey hair, you need to read about the machine Katie uses). One of my friends, took more time to see the results having blonde hair and fair skin, hence it’s not really recommended.

STEP 3: Start Zapping!

Place the i-Light Pro device against your skin and wait for the chirping sound. This chirping sound is caused the skin contact sensor that confirms that you have the hand piece against your skin. Easy, right?! Once you hear the chirping sound, you may now press the button. Upon pressing, you may feel a sting or a pinch, but it would not be that painful, after all, we all have our own pain tolerance.

Feeling the warmth emitted by the device only means that you are working your way through a less hairy you! Sweet, beautiful pain it is. Make sure to NOT zap through the same area twice, or else you might get burnt.. like I did. Ouch. After the treatment, you might want to lather some lotion or ointment to the treated areas.

It is easy to burn yourself if you try to rush and/or don’t completely follow directions, so make sure to be diligent and mindful of every step.

Staying true to its promise, less hair growth was indeed evident after the 6 months (a week in between), but we are talking about the year 2016 here, so with today’s technology, there is more to be had for laser and IPL permanent hair reduction at home in my opinion and I think I have repeated this enough throughout this post.

My skin, aside from being smoother, was evidently suppler.

So the verdict – if you want more bang for your buck, upgrade to either the Remington Quartz or the Pro Plus.

If you are a happy camper and are willing to wait for results in the name of saving money, then this ipl hair removal machine will also work it’s magic.
